At On Track Education Northampton we understand the link between wellbeing, progress and attainment. Through the use of Thrive we adopt a whole school proactive approach to emotional wellbeing and positive mental health across our whole school community. We don’t just shape our environments for our most vulnerable, we shape it for all. This ensures that all pupils are likely to overcome adversity, doing better than circumstances might have predicted.

Safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children is defined as:

‘Protecting children from maltreatment; preventing the impairment of children’s physical and mental health and development; ensuring that children grow up in circumstances consistent with the provision of safe and effective care; taking action to enable all children to have the best outcomes’

Just like with safeguarding the promoting and protecting of emotional wellbeing and mental health is everybody’s responsibility.

Good mental health is not just the absence of mental health problems such as; depression and anxiety. Rather, it’s the presence of positive characteristics such as being able to cope with life’s challenges, handle stress, build strong relationships, and recover from setbacks.

Good mental health includes the way we feel about ourselves; the quality of our relationships; our ability to manage feelings and deal with difficulties; and how much meaning and joy we derive from life.

Our approach is influenced by the voices and views of our pupils, parents, staff and the wider school community.
