Silverstone
Welcome to On Track Silverstone!
So, what makes us different from other schools? Each On Track school has its own, unique personality. This is really important, because it reflects the young people we have in our care. We have taken some time to really think about this; staff and students all giving their thoughts on what makes us unique.
The first thing is our location. Our school is right in the middle of a farm! We are surrounded by beautiful scenery with fields extending in each direction of the school. In these fields are the cows and sheep who live here. They wander up to the water troughs overlooking the outside areas of the school to stop and have a drink. It also means you get to know just a little bit about farm life, such as when the sheep have their lambs and the fields are left to replenish and regrow.
From the outside to inside, we have a calm and creative environment. We are a small school, with only 40 students. This means we get to individualise, making sure that learning is fun and that our young people experience a personalised education. Their curriculum programmes can look very different, because we are all different. A typical day might be to arrive, have some breakfast, complete a sensory circuit or have some time with peers and staff. The good relationships between staff and students ensures students are able to express themselves freely. Learning might be in the classroom for English, maths, art or many of our subject areas (we make sure the full curriculum is available ). However, if that isn’t quite right, it can look very different. It might mean a morning in the woods, followed by an afternoon cooking or sensory play. Each student gets to work in a way that suits them. Alongside each of these approaches, we aim to help develop emotionally healthy students by incorporating wellbeing and the Thrive approach underpinning everything we do.
They may seem like small details, but the little things all add up. Young people do not wear uniform; they are able to dress in what feels comfortable to them. Staff are known by their first names and mostly come to school dressed in their On Track hoodie and trainers!
