In accordance with The Department for Education we aim to actively promote British values in schools to ensure young people leave school prepared for life in modern Britain. All our pupils are expected to take the Gateway British Values qualification at the end of KS 3 /KS 4 depending on when they joined the school.
Pupils are encouraged to regard people of all faiths, races and cultures with respect and tolerance and understand that while different people may hold different views about what is ‘right’ and ‘wrong’, all people living in England are subject to its law. All our children watch the News Round daily, to ensure that they are up to date with current affairs in modern day Britain and the wider world. This leads to discussions across the school regarding daily events

Democracy |
The word democracy means “rule by the people.” It comes from the Ancient Greek words demos (“people”) and kratos (“rule”). It is a fundamental British value, which is embedded throughout our school.

Tolerance of Culture and Faiths of others |
At West Yarner/ Seale Hayne we aim to 'Prepare children for the future' ensuring that our pupils are able to live and work alongside people from all backgrounds and cultures. Our pupils are taught to understand that it is expected that respect is shown to everyone and to everything, whatever differences we may have. Children learn that their behaviour choices have an effect on their own rights and those of others. All members of the school community are role models for the children for how to treat each other with respect.

Individual Liberty |
At West Yarner/ Seale Hayne we believe that promoting choice and freedom in daily school life will foster a sense of individual liberty as the children embark upon their adult lives. Our pupils are encouraged to know, understand and exercise their rights and personal freedoms and are taught how to exercise these safely, throughout our curriculum. We invest a great deal of time in creating a positive culture in our school, so that children are in a safe environment where choices and freedoms are encouraged and valued. Pupils are given the freedom to make a variety of meaningful choices such as choosing the level of challenge they want to progress to in a lesson Through our E-Safety activities, we educate children on their rights and personal freedoms as well as supporting them in recognising how to exercise these freedoms safely
|
Mutual Respect |
In West Yarner/ Seale Hayne RE progression ensures that all children learn about the main religions and teaches respect and understanding for the cultures, beliefs, opinions and traditions or others.
|
The Rule of Law |
Our pupils will encounter rules and laws throughout their entire lives. We want our pupils to understand that whether these laws govern the class, the school, the neighbourhood or the country, they are set for good reasons and must be adhered to. This understanding of the importance of rules will be consistently reinforced throughout our curriculum in classes as well as during outdoor learning opportunities, school trips and intervention sessions.

British Traditions and Heritage |
British Traditions and Heritage - this is woven throughout the curriculum. Examples include the study of significant time periods and prominent characters from our history, which are linked to our indoor and outdoor learning activities e.g
